That is nice briar grain. I was talking to a guy that hand made pipes and he said the briar that is more like "lines" instead of the maple birds eye look , circular spots, was the more expensive in pipes. The grain pattern on that brush is nice from what I can see. He done a great job. I have wanted to get a fancy brush made by Matt but it might will be after bootcamp some time

If any of you are considering buying a brush from Matt don't hesitate. I have two of his brushes, one with an ivory handle and the other with a wood handle and both are really outstanding pieces.

For anyone concerned about the original topic of this thread, I've had the opportunity to work with Briar, both on Ray's brush and on a brush for CaptMdnght.Simply put, Briar is amazing to work with. It cuts, turns and sands well, with a fantastic final finish. If any of the craftsmen here are considering Briar for a project, you should know that it is a superb wood to work with.
