Glad to see you guys like them as much as I do. They came out as good as I hoped.

I was concerned about making custom scales for the Wonderedge and loosing the original look of the razor. I thought that reusing the brass would go a long way to preserve it.

Matching the original shape in order to reuse the brass and getting it off the originals without damage was a concern but it worked out in the end. These were harder to shape because of that shape matching and I had to go extra slow and careful on them.

I kept my fingers crossed that a CA finish would magnify the perlescent grain, which it did. It did look a bit scary when the CA cured all frosty and dull but sanding and polishing fixed that.

I think that these scales would even be a better match on a Goldedge because of the yellow color of the originals. The only road block to making more is the need to have the original brass. But I am going to try out an idea that may remove that constraint.

In that case, don't forget to put your logo on the scales as well, so people don't try to pass them off as originals and at the same time they can still appreciate your excellent work.

The grain and color really complement the razor's original appointments. Very nice!

I just love this job Vlad. I'm flirting with the idea of trying it, but it would be a first for me. The last time I made anything from wood was 25 yrs ago. A few questions, if I may.

    1. Are the brass fittings flush with the surface or raised? Nenad & I have bet.
    2. How the heck did you separate them from the original scales?
    3. You (or someone) posted the hack saw which can be used. What other tools did you use?
    4. Along with the wood, do you have spacers and pins for sale or are we off to Classic for those?

    Flush

Carefuly with an exacto knife, they are not sitting deep, you may want to soak them in boiling water to soften the celluloid first. I did not but had them boiled before while trying to unwarp them.

    3. You (or someone) posted the hack saw which can be used. What other tools did you use?
I rough cut with a scroll saw. Coping saw would be a manual version of it. Belt sander to rough it out and give a rough rounding.

Hand sanding from 220 up to 2000.

CA sand to 2000 and buff.

    4. Along with the wood, do you have spacers and pins for sale or are we off to Classic for those?

I can provide them on special request only. They are manually made so are much more expensive than the pack of 5 sets from Classic for $12.99, but mine look better and are made from brass.

I can throw in a set of 2 pins and 4 collars/washers for the outside and 2 shank washers for $8 but only if someone really insists. These are hand minted. They take time to make and I have no way of making them in any quantity.

You also will need 3/32" O.D. brass tube if you want to line all the holes to prevent any posibility of cracking at those weak points. It takes a small piece of 5/32" for each hole. I am running low on these and can spare an inch or two but no more until I restock.

I already promised some to Nenad so my current reserve is very limited.

I am going to take pictures of the Wonderedge with the scales and post them in a couple of hours. They really dress that blade and the brass pins and washers work better than nickel silver would.

I don't know the specifics of the bet but:

I did not recess them into the wood. I made the CA finish thick enough so that it covers the brass too. That way the brass won't corrode and leave green gunk all over my work.

So, yes they are flush because the brass and the wood is under the CA finish. Hope this did not upset the outcome of the bet .
