Thanks for the encouragement. I will be doing more of this kind of scale replacement on future projects. I have a Goldedge on the todo list and planning to give it Ebony scales. I think that the gold tang and original brass will stand out nicely against a black backdrop. I was thinking of giving it an Ebony framed box with Yellowheart pannels to match the colors on the razor.
I will also make custom scales for a couple of Pumas, don't know if I can salvage or re-use the original inlays but will definitely make new ones out of brass if I can't make the orginals work.
I find that razors whose original scales have inlays just don't look right if the custom scales don't have them. Instead of looking better because they are customized they look like they are missing something. It is like having a Rolls-Royce without the lady as the hood ornament.

Vlad, you're too artistic for this world. I couldn't afford what one of your restoration projects is really worth and I'd feel guilty to offer you less. (assuming I had the cash ofcourse lol) The ebony project sounds LOVELY to me as I favor dark woods. Good luck.

one day......I'll find a blade, strip it of scales and send it to you just to work on.....and actually be able to pay you for your efforts which is why I haven't already.
Now...if only I could find a awesome blade for no money....

I have the blade but not the $$$ for the restoration work that it needs and that Vlad could do.
Edit: So I am trying my own feeble efforts on it when I have a bit of free time.

Ilija,
You can take comfort in the fact that I can't afford one of my restoration projects either. I can't even afford to keep one much less buy one.

Short of that you have to look locally for deals. Good e-bay deals are almost extinct.

So I get a few every now and then. I stay clear of the Dubl Ducks though. They go up too high for me. Same with the Dorko's, W&B's and stuff. It's budget razors all the way for me. But I don't care coz I get a good shave out of them.

Vlad, keep restoring them the way you do and soon enough you'll be able to afford a 7 day set from Bill Ellis
