Thanked: 182bob is a good guy least when i have dealt with him
(got my sheet of 52100 from him )
the ABS is for bladesmiths
if you dont hammer the steel you cant be a member (i toy with the thought of settign up a forge and playing around with hot steel)
forging is fun but doesnt really make the steel better (the HT does that )

That is so very cool. It is so nice to see that we have many craftsmen still around be it knives or razors. I hope that these lost arts will carry on and prosper.

I know of a few here in Australia too. I'm not a 'smith myself as I use the stock removal method when I make knives. I am in the process of putting a forge together all the same, as I feel that forging is more right for me. We have our own Guild here that, I'm sure, would be the equal of the ABS...Thus my critical comment previously.
Like I said I'm not making any attacks on the 'smith, just the presenters comments and the way they were put across.

Thanked: 182understand
what most ppl dont get is the fact that with modern steels forging does not make it that much better is any (matter of fact much more can go wrong then it can go right)
the more ppl know of this the less a smith will seem mystical. tho i have lots of respect for the smiths its fun/hard work and if making Damascus steel truely art

$12600 for a knife? I can't imagine what it could do that could make it worth $12600.
