    Question Antique Consignment Stores?

I got paid for a computer job today. The people tipped me enough that the wife let me keep $20.00 for myself even after putting some dough in the kitty for my son's bday present.

I stopped off at an "antique consignment store". They had lots of razors there, I was really surprised, almost 20 razors there.

Unfortunately the one stall that had the most razors were all razors that were over honed, etc.

The vendor was nice enough to take me around to other stalls and show me what else was there that he knew of. amidst all the stuff I found this 7/8 Clauss:

I decided to take a chance on it since it didnt' look to me as if it had ever been honed before. 11 bucks later I took it home and spent a few hours buffing it then honing it and this is what I have now:

Sorry that the pictures aren't better. My camera gave out and is now charging. Even so I think you can see the difference.

Is this a good deal or just another so so razor? The 6/8 Clauss I got from Joe seems to be a nice shaver. I can't wait to try this 7/8.

Great find! I've checked out a few antique stores in town. The ones that have razors are severely overpriced. My parents were at a store where the guy had probably close to 100 razors, but he wanted about $30 for the cheapest one

Applause, applause! Way to save one. $11 and some polish you say? I've got to get me down to some antique shops and flee markets, just to see what treasures there may be in my neck of the woods.

Thanks all, I'm glad it's passing the muster so far.

I'm waiting until tomorrow to shave with it.

I got to looking at it though. It didn't look like 7/8 to me. I measured it. It's 13/16. The guy mis-spoke. That's ok though I still think it's a nice find.

That was my dream the other day. I spent the day going to the many antique shops in the area hoping to find a deal like yours. I found many razors but they were all in bad shape. Even the ones that were semi decent were way overpriced. I pretty much told all the shop owners that they were smoking crack. They didn't like me too much.

Anyway good find, let us know how the baby shaves.

That's the trouble with many standard antique stores. The owners don't really know the true value of anything. They think that old=expensive regardless of quality.

I spend more time visiting the flea markets around here. There's often some really good deals out there and 9 out of 10 vendors seem willing to banter in most of them, except for hartville, only the outside vendors seem willing to hear counter offers there.

Anyways, I shaved with the Clauss this a.m. It went very smooth. cut right through the whiskers like a hot knife through warm butter. I'm really starting to prefer larger blades. I don't know if it's the weight on the downward stroke or what but it just seems to shave much better for me than the smaller razors.
