I like a satin finish blade with mirror finish everywhere else. The mirror finish on the face of the blades does not provide enough contrast.
Most satin finishes are 400 to 800 grit finish then polished. You get striations from the fine grit but also much shinier than grit alone. My TI is like that and many razors too.
I did one blade mirror finish and find that satin finish looks better. A good satin finish after restoration is much harder to achieve than high polish. The lines have to be uniform and straight. Polishing is much easier in comparison. Especially when everything is polished. Keeping the faces satin finish while polishing the rest of the blade to a mirror finish is much harder.
In mass production neither one presents any more effort. So when razors have a satin finish it is mostly for aesthetic reasons.
I do not find that mirror finish blades preserve better than their satin finish counterparts. The striations do not provide a place for water to accumulate. The appearance is due to light dispersion and not any significant scratches in the metal.
