Do I have to make scales?
I had posted a few times recently asking questions regarding restoration, etc. because I purchased a really crappy FWE Engels Special from ebay to give restoration a shot.
The blade turned out nicely and I was able to remove the bolsters however the scales were cracked even when I got the thing. I had originally planned on buying replacement scales for the blade but it never crossed my mind on how the bolsters would work in this case. Any chance a standard scale replacement made by DOVO would work or will I have to actually make my own scales in this case?
Thanks guys!

Thanked: 993Dovo would probably work. You may also want to check out the Gentlemen's Best website. They have a number of scale designs that will work for your razor, with measurements online. They also sell their scales both "finished" and "DIY finishing" for those who would like to try their hand at the process. Prices are very reasonable for both styles.
Give it a look.

Thanked: 1263It depends on the shape of the scales you order as to whether the bolsters will fit without modification. If you can find something close to the original shape though you should be ok.

Thanks to both of you! I'll post some pictures once I get everything finished up but I doubt it will be any time soon.
On an unrelated note, the bolsters, before I removed them, had a nice green "paint" behind them that gave a nice effect. It almost seemed like a wax when I removed it.
Can anyone tell me what that "paint" actually is so I can make an attempt at recreating that look?
Thanks again!
