Need some advice on my first.
Hey, everyone! On my first straight razor (Simmons Hardware Keen Kutter) and restoration I decided to go with the full package. Plenty of patina removal, some pitting, worn scales to get myself an idea of how everything works. I made new thin scales using beech wood, I thought it looked kinda nice plus I was able to get it right around the corner The problem I'm facing is the fact, that I have no idea, how to seal the wood. I would also appreciate a little feedback on the looks of the scales, I've been working on these for almost two days with only a saw and some sandpaper Also what spacer material do you guys recommend. I thought of going with the same wood of maybe a dark wood. It's a hollow ground, so should I be afraid of breaking the blade or anything while sanding?

Thanked: 1263Hello and Welcome. You could check out the restore threads here to give you ideas on what others have done regarding the wedge and maybe what will appeal to you. Also the WIKI has some tutorials on what you can use to finish the scales..a quite a few guys lately have been using CA (gorilla glue) to finish with great results. Just be careful while sanding, if you're doing it by hand you should be ok..there's a tutorial on that in the WIKI too. Also, pics may help if you want our opinions

Thanks for welcoming and for the ultra-fast reply! My bad, I just posted the pictures, would appreciate an honest opinion. Hand sanding is slow, but I thought there gonna be some adwantages and I see there are. The straight razor army just got a new soldier, new stuff was such a disappointment to me.

Thanks a lot! It might take a while, but as soon as I'm done I'll post a picture. I was afraid the scales would turn out too thin.
