Default Butler temporarily out of commission

I was just looking over my newly restored baby when it suddenly went loose. Turns out the pivot pin is broken. I don't know when I'll be able to hit Lee Valley and get pinning material. The other crappy part is that I just got the new baby to shave and was happy with having 4 shavers in my rotation when this happened.

Does lee Valley carry the proper pinning materials? I haven't seen any at the stores or in catelogues, though I see the appropriate tubing and bar stock at nearly every serious RC shop I visit. Flightcraft in Kitchener has a fair amount of tubing and bar in stock.

Yeah, I spent a while perusing Lee Valley on more than on occasion and didn't see any pinning material. The brass rod isn't terribly hard to find, but the I've never seen washers the right size (tho I haven't looked very hard). I've never seen the niced domed ones like vlad makes anywhere either. I guess what I'm saying is, if you got a source, don't be afraid to share

For the inside washers, you can use the stainless size 0 from www.microfasteners.com. I thought they had the rod stock (pin) and tubing (outside washers) at Lee Valley. I guess I'll look into RC shops in the GTA. Matt, do you know any in Etobicoke/Mississauga?

My first step will be just calling LV and asking if they have the stuff. I'll keep you gentlemen posted.

I don't think LV has any of these, but good luck.
ETA: They have 16 gauge escutcheon pins, which should be 1/16" if I'm not mistaken.

    http://www.spaenaur.com has #0 brass washers.
They are located in Kitchener. I haven't seen or touched the washers just talked to a sales person over the phone.

I've bought the little packet of nails from LV and they have a rounded head on the one end. This means they end up looking like the Dovo pins, except a little more proud, without the fake looking "pin within a washer" look. You can always snip of the end and pin both sides to even it out.

I don't know of many RC shops in toronto, though I'm sure there are plenty. The shop I went into had a sort of display stand with the tubing from K&S. K&S is a good company but they are wholesalers, so unless you want to buy an actual display stand from them with a small inventory, it's worth checking out an RC shop, as they all seem to have one. When I picked out a dozen or so rods, the guy at the counter smiled and said "are you a knifemaker". I guess they have alot of guys buying stock to make the pin mosaics.

If' you're just looking to pin one razor, I can send a bit of brass rod, which would only take 2-3 days to get there. It's handy to have a piece on hand though, and the rods are about 3ft long and about 0.50$. You can also get the tubing so you can mint your own washers.

    Matt

Wow, it's been majorly busy here, didn't get around to checking my msgs here. Made a stupid mistake, caught a virus and basically wiped both my drives and started from scratch (well, my december 15th backup dvds).
Thanks for the offer Matt, but I have to re-scale at least 2, probably 3 razors in my current inventory, not to mention what I may get later on, especially if I decide to do my own scales later on down the line. I didn't get a bp-hammer and an anvil for nothing lol.
Therefore, I have some shopping around to do as soon as I find some spare time.

Firestart, checkout Northstar hobbies. Their at 2200 Dundas Street E. right near the west mall (look for muddy duck restaurant, it's in the same miniplaza). I was there on friday and they sell the 1/16" brass rod that works perfect for pinning. They also sell brass tube that you can use as a liner in your scales or maybe even cut it and use it as collars.I only picked up some of the rod though. It comes in packs of three 12" length for $1.99. They also sell a bunch of other stuff that would probably come in handy for razor restoration, but, I had to restrain myself.

Thanks Tox. That's very close to my place and even closer to where I go for work meetings on Mondays (Dundas/Kipling). Then I can also order in the stainless size 0 washers for inside the scales and get the Butler back into the rotation

    cool, convenient is good

If you're ordering some of those washers, think I might be able to get an order in with you so we can split the shipping?
