    Default Thanks, Vlad

I managed to get myself an old W&B which had seen better days (Ebay Item number: 6639116687) and using Vlad's excellent scale blank kit with Kingwood and the equally excellent advice and tips on this forum, I managed to do this with it. Given that I haven't worked with wood since I failed woodwork in school 20 years ago, I'm quite pleased with it - now I just have to get it honed up and take it for a test drive.

How did anyone else who got one of the kits do? I'm sure there's better results out there from hands more skilled than mine.

Nice job! I like it. You finished the wood with something?

Mine cocobolo is still waiting for me to figure a way to remove the scales from the WBMC without damaging the washers...

Thanks Nenad - yeah, I used Vlad's method of oil then superglue. If anyone's interested, I found 180 grit sandpaper best to remove the glue I managed to get over my fingers. Stop when you bleed

Very nice job. Nice and simple and the scales are just ohh so clean and smooth
Just curious: how long did this one take you from start to finish?

Cheers, ToxIk - I'd say it was about an hour or two per evening for a week including a bit of work on the blade although my fingers were beginning to ache a bit too much to get a mirror finish. I think I may have to get some sort of mini-vice to hold the blade for sanding.

Why? You'll be getting plenty of washers in no time

Stot, excellent work! I have a W&B just waiting for the same treatment. I might as well get started now lol.

uhm, the Meatchopper has bullseye collars, and they are quite large, and I suppose made from one piece. The pin is huge too, at ~1/8 diameter. So, either I remove them without damage, or make them on a micro lathe (which I don't own, for now)

    p.s. thanx for the washers!

Hang on, maybe we can order you some bigger ones as well. Who knows I may get lucky and get 1/8 rod stock at the hobby shop that Jason told me about. Remember what D. Adams says in these situations: Don't panic!

They have that too. I remember seeing everything from like 1/4" to rediculously small 1/64" (the stuff was thinner than a pin).

I'm assuming they don't carry washers, or you'd have bought them there by now?
