Tried to make some scales today
and I learned something. I learned im not a scale maker. They looks like scales and operate like scales but the end result isnt pretty. I didnt have the sand paper to smooth the edges. I guess on the bright side ive got 3 razors I can shave with i didnt have this morning. The blue and yellow are acrylic and the clear is polycarbonate. The wedge are some ive salvaged from just razors.

Considering you didn't have sand paper I would say you did pretty well!
Something to be proud off.

Thanked: 1371I think they look good. Get some sandpaper, and you'll be making really great scales in no time.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Your basic shape, pin placement and proportion look pretty good - all better than my first attempt.
All you need is the paper, and the time to smooth everythnig out. Keep going, and I'm sure you'll really be pleased with your work!

Why not?
There is no reason you shouldn't be proud of your scales. They were a first try and it looks like you are going to continue working them. I think they look great.

Not bad! The pins look great. A little sanding and buffing and you are there!

Shame on you simple man. I started reading your post and was expecting something all wonky.
But you did good !
You set my wonkyness expectation so high, and ended up disapointing me.Last edited by Glenn24; 03-04-2011 at 08:27 PM. Reason: wording mistake

Maybe I set my standards to high for my first set.
The more I look at them the happier i get.
