That razor is good enough for any man's rotation. Please tell me if you decide not to go for it or are only gonna bid like $20 or something. Someone will steal it from you at that price. I always bid low and I would put $40 to $50 on it.

If Bill's willing to bid on it I'd take a gander that it's worth it.

    Red,

you don't want that seller to ship to canada. He/She has zero tolerance for slow payments or hiccups via the postal system according to the feedback, and only takes payments by snail mail.

Plus, I already have too many razors that need attention. (and 3 more coming plus one shave-ready). This is getting out of hand.

I am going to implement a new rule: do not own more non-shave ready razors than you could fix up in a weekend. which means no more ebay for me for at least a month.

Also, in general, I find that if you buy too much too quickly, the individual purchases lose their significance. Which is too bad.

I was going to do $45 or 50 on it as max bid but now I check it and its gone. Listing was removed. I emailed him to see whats up so I might have lost out on another really nice one I was going to wait closer to the end but wish now I would have made that starting bid.

Yeah, I had to make that experience once, as well, it sucks.

Ever since then, if I see a razor I like without any bids, I put in a small bid, just to make it harder for the seller to pull it.

    I still snipe though :P

That's the way to do it. Bid small then snipe. It lets people here know you're interested in it and makes it harder to pull

So I am getting the idea this razor was somewhat custom made for someone?
If so that is interesting, makes me curious of its history.

Don't listen to Popeye, he only went to his German class to check out the girls sitting next to him

This razor has no brand name on the shank. All it says there is A+ silver steel, guarantee (misspelled) - Solingen.

On the blade, it says quality workmanship from Solingen. So all in all very generic markings. Despite being so generic, I find it interesting that they bothered with the beautiful pattern on the spine.

Maybe they noticed the misspelling on the one side and decided not to put their brand name on the other. But still sold it as a generic razor. Or it was supposed to be exported to France, but they put the wrong (German) etching on the blade.
Or maybe I'm making this last paragraph up, we'll never know.

    ETA:
Check out what I found on John Crowley's site:

I'll bet my retirement fund that it says:
    1a Silberstahl
    Garantie Solingen

    on the shank.

    Hey,
I got that straight out a German to English translator. One could "assume" that it came straight out of dictionary. In fact at the top it said Universite of SchnickleFritz. Or something like that.
    I just posted the translation.
One thing I did learn in class was Ich weiss nicht!!
And I got both the girls!!!
