Thinking of getting tihs one as a fixer upper.. what do you think
http://cgi.ebay.com/SOLINGEN-NAVY-AN...ayphotohosting
I don't know if its a good razor or not I just like the etching on the face of the razor and spine. If I get it I would have someone put new scales on it for me.
Can anyone tell if this would be a poor quality blade or anything wrong with it? I didn't notice anything but most everyone here knows more of what to look for.
THanks Larry

I ask the seller for better pictures and a measurment of the width, and explain what I mean by width as most sellers don't seem to know what this is.
I sent this seller questions and will send you any pics if you like that the seller sends me. Don't worry I'm not bidding on this one. I'm still trying to get my son's birthday razor set finished. .
I like the etching in the blade and spine. hopefully a closer picture will show what's written in the tang.

I also asked for some better pics and he replied " I will send them tonight" which should tonight. So we will see. If you do get something send whatever you get to [email protected] if you like.

Never hear of the brand, but aesthetically, it is one really nice looking blade IMO. Once you get those pictures, and everything checks out. I say go for it, but don't go nuts with bidding (just incase).

I sent you the one pic the seller sent me of the back side of the razor. I asked for better shots of both sides. This seems to be a seller who is minimally involved . s/he already has 2 pics of the front so the back is the only one sent even though i asked for both sides? I sent another message explaining I can't get a good look at the razor with the small resolution pics on ebay. I'll be surprised if s/he provides better pics.
If you get any thing worthwhile from the seller I'd say it's a nice looking razor. size is 13/16 according to the seller. If I weren't so strapped trying to get my son's birthday set up I'd be tempted by it. I like the engravings on the face and spine.

Hey Pit, that's a nice looking collectible. I see no pitting or tarnish. I don't see any flea bites either.
Good luck.

I don't think it's a brand, per se, but it appears to be a no name or commissioned razor from one of the razor manufacturers in Solingen. Silberstahl is Silver Steel in German. Garanti Solingen is Guarantee Solingen. I can't figure out what the Ia is though. There is a German abbreviation I.A. that stands for Im Auftrag which means something like *by the order of* or *by commission of* or something like that. Hopefully someone who speaks better German will let us know. It appears to be a fairly high quality razor though, since it has file work on the spine and nice art work on the blade.

Since everyone is trying, I'll take a stab as well
1a in this context means something like A+, ie excellent silver steel
Guarantee ist spelled "Garantie" in German, notice the missing "e" at the end.
Some of you are really picky if I didn't already have too many razors and this seller shipped to Canada, I'd be all over it. Gorgeous item.
Just my $0.02
