Pick up a good cheap razor (price, not quality) and learn to shave with it. Looks like the one you showed pics of will work. Send 'em both out to the same guy for honing, and while you wait read everything you can here on SRP. By the time you get them back you'll be an expert and ready to take that first shave!

So far as guys in the Southern Most nation of the world, I know there's at least one other member down there. Maybe more. Search the user list under community in the menu bar above for guys located in NZ. Might find somebody local-ish who can hone your razors. If not, there are several members is Australia.

By now you may have already done so...in that case, please keep us updated as things progress!

I believe what Jim may have meant by "Cheap Razor" is (Inexpensive/not Cheap) if you check out the Classifieds here at SRP you will find that you can purchase a quality, shave ready razor for anywhere between $25-$40 and up delivered/international may cost just a little more! They may not be the fanciest, or the most beautiful, but they are good performers!

I bought a great German Made Razor from a seller in Australia for $40 delivered and it's one of my favorites! (it arrived in less than a weeks time!)

Thanks guys. I have just finished restoring a razor & I had a go at honing it myself. I did it on a 1000 grit Japanese water stone, then moved to a barbers hone of my grandfathers and then finished it off on my leather belt. It passes the hanging hair test so I might give it a go
