So far I haven't found any silver rod for pins, has anyone ever used aluminum for making pins. That I can find in 1/16th.

I've tried it before. I found it much less malleable to peen than brass or nickel/silver. Occasionally you can find the nickel/silver rods on Ebay for a reasonable price.

This link is to 1/16 nickel silver rod. I'm not sure if I've seen 'pure' silver rod

Pure silver, I imagine, would be to soft(and expensive) to use for pins. Sterling silver might work, but I wouldn't know where to find it.

on a side note - has anyone been able to located nickel silver or aluminum washers? I've been looking to put a blade in aluminum scales but stainless won't work and brass will offset the look

I've never seen the washers anywhere, but it's fairly easy to make your own washers out of sheet aluminum or nickel/silver. You should be able to find thin sheet goods at any hobby store.

You could always buy a jeweler's punch and stamp your own washers..
