when I re-grind basically I take a very thin layer of metal off all the way round to remove imperfections such as pitting hone ware etc but you sill want to retain the original shape and contours. extreem care must be taken not to heat the metal otherwise you will lose the temper the blade will soften and it wont hold an edge
the official terminology may be a bit different ,but thats what i mean by it

I can see how taking a thin layer off would improve the looks of a razor but I thought that hone ware was the back of the razor being warn down from honing over a long period of time. If there is too much ware then the angle of the bevil would be too great. I'm not sure how you can change that other than by making the width of the blade smaller.

Yes thats correct ,it gives the razor a more acute cutting angle, thats why you take off as little as possible

So I guess knowing how much hone ware is too much comes with experience and the type of blade and lots of other factors.
Bad luck on item 140016734485 it went to another member here 'Traveller' nice blade but not sure it's worth $105AUD though . I guess things are worth what people are willing to pay. I was going to put in a bit late last night but it would have been blown out of the water anyway. Oh well now I'll have money for Lynn's dvd
