Thanked: 0My razors are all flea market purchases. My best (Sunday flea market in Maastricht) has a deep tear near the heel. I just strop and shave with the rest of the blade. Is there something I should or can do to prevent the tear from spreading?

Thanked: 0I do it kinda the same, but a little different. I scribe the blade to follow the spine what ever it might be. I then go to a 1" belt sander and without heating the blade I grind the split out gently, and then regrind the shoulder and straighten the spine if need be. Now I do a little bread kniving on 600 Dmt. then start the honing process. The reason I use the 1" belt sander is that I can usually control the split from running and if it doesn't I haven't lost much time.
