Looks sweet, Scott! What are you using to finish the scales?

Clear polyeurothane, but I am hitting it with steel wool to get the satin look. It helps bring out the grain in the walnut.

    Wayback machine turned on

If you like Inlay/Fused/Laminate type fun with scales you should also take a look here
Inside out that thread is a link from Dan aka Floppyshoes on how he did another style too

That is all of course linked in the Workshop sticky under "Fusion" wood scales I think you might enjoy some of that

Here the scales are with the W&B Razor use only blade.
I am leaving the patina on the blade for now but might polish her up later.
What is the consencus? Polished or patina'd, please give your opinions to help me out!!!

Beautiful work as usual!! My opinion? Put a mirror shine on that thing and it would remind me of what it may have looked like in a showcase at a barber's convention in 1882!! It would have been the envy of every barber for 200 miles around.

Man that turned out nice. I think it will look good either way, but shiny is awfully eye-catching.

Very nice work there. Just my opinion but I always like the polished look

If you polish the blade, the scales need to be glossier, IMO.
As is, with the mixture of woods the scales need to be glossy, IMO.
So... The blade needs to be polished, IMO.

I like the mixture of woods, and the way it's put together.
I don't understand the notch in the middle. It is not needed for function, and the curve doesn't "go" with anything else. It appears to me to be a notch for the sake of having a notch. Additionally it seems odd, to me, to see a right angle on the blade in the middle of the curved cut out in the scales.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.
