blade not centered within scales.. pin to tight to tap anymore..
So i got this really beautiful razor from an antique store this past weekend.. thing is it pulls to the right and ever so slightly grazes the right scale.. the blade is already tight between the pivot pin so im scared that if i tap it anymore the scales will crack (and the blade will be uncomfortably tight).. should i just repin it? the scales don't look warped to me.. =[

Thanked: 993You could also make a mental note that you need to use two hands to close the razor. I have a couple like this, and I've just left them as is.

Thanked: 1072There is a good article in the WIKI about this issue Blade Centering - Straight Razor Place Wiki
But a quick solution, even if the scales dont seem warped might be to give them a little steam. Apply a little pressure in the direction you need them to flex and run under some cold water. What are the scales made of?

I would re-pin. Ive seen this on some of the older razors that pinning hole on the razor has alot of ware and it allows the pin to bend when pinning. Use some brass tube and make a bushing and re-pin it.
