Material hunting...
OK, I'm trying to track down all the fixin's....
I have found the #0 washer's:
http://www.microfasteners.com/
And some other materials:
http://www.texasknife.com/store/s-pa...frameStore.htm
http://www.knifekits.com/store/s-pag...main.htm~smain
But, where do you guy's do your shopping, and what works best for you?
I can find the plastic liner for inside the scales, but only 0.024" thick. I noticed Vlad used 0.01" thickness, and I can not find that! Also, Bill mentions using 1/16" tubing with his 1/16" rods for pinning the pivot pin. I can find the 1/16" rods, but only 1/8" tubing. I am going to swing by a local hoby shop today to see what they have. Also, I have not been to woodcrafter's near by yet...
Thanks!!!

You want 3/32 tubing, not 1/16. The 3/32 has an ID of 1/16.

Thanked: 2I've got the correct tubing to accept a 1/16th pin. I can send you enough for two or three razors if you'd like.
BTW, I picked up the strop yesterday and it looks great. Anytime you want to give me a buzz, go ahead.

However, Matt, there will come a day when you are not there for me...and where will I get the pin materials, the wood for scales? I will be lost I need to know where to get these things on my own. I need to be, to be...independent!
SO, where could I get these fine items myself?!
(I'll email you on the strop!)
Thanks,

Thanked: 2It's ok. As long as you do exactly what I say, you won't ever be alone. If you don't listen to me though, you'll be all alone, and slowly whither and die.
But if you must know, I picked up all of my tubing at the local Remote Controlled Model store. I don't know what they use it for, but they had a big rack of it.

I too, have had no luck finding plastic sheets, other than poly, to use as liners. Also, none of the epoxies I've tried have held on the poly sheet.
I know Garythepenman uses plastic, but I've had no luck trying to duplicate his work.

Gary,
Is the epoxy good for the plastic on wood or metal? Also, where do you buy the plastic you use and how thick is it?
Matt,
I was at the same shop today! WELL, one down here in Massachusetts. It's a remote control hoby shop and they had that same tub/rod rack you were talking about. They also had brass sheets of various lengths and widths! I was able to buy the 1/16" brass rods as well as the tubing. What was nice was I could see what tubing would snugly fit the rods... As it turns out, the 1/16" tube, fits the 1/16" rods. At least when it comes to remote control things (perhaps they list the tubes there according to inner diameter)....this might be different for knife supply shops.
Thanks everyone for this help and keep the advice and places to buy coming!!!

Thanked: 324If you really feel the need for scale liners, then I would recomind fiber liners. It's something like plastic but tougher than a steak made of chain mail. It comes in a pretty good variety of colors, too. I found a number of sheets of this liner material on Ebay in the past and I suspect it's pretty common in specialty hobby shops.

Thanks Robert,
I had seen mircata liner, and was wondering about it. I'll check out eBay too!
