    Default Measuring Hollow

Is there a specific way to find out what the hollow is on a razor. I'm sure most of the pros here can eyeball the hollow of a razor but I can't do that at the moment and thought I would ask to see if there's a way to measure it objectively.

I am new myself. I dont think you will need to make it to old pro to see the differences. I currently only own a wedge & full hollow. One thing to help spot a full hollow is a doubled shoulder. Wedges are a wedge, you pretty much have to use a reflection to see the slight curve to it. Hopefully others will be along soon.

There's a lot of variation in grinds. I don't know that there's a specific measuring tool to differentiate.

Well I will pile on this. I can't see the differences often between 1/4, 1/2, or fully hollow ground. Does anyone know where one measures the ends of the arc of the grind or is it where the tangents of the blade center or something all together different? Sometimes it seems like the distinction is entirely in the mind of the distinctor. is that a word?

I'll move this to the workshop forum. Possibly some of the razor makers might chime in there.

I think your statement is one of the truest ones out there concerning the grinds of razors.

Thanks for the input guys. I thought there would be a specific way of measuring but I guess it's more subjective.

Within a given manufacturer the designations make (some) sense. There is not an industry standard; there is no specific measurement to be taken.

Lately when listing razors I just describe them as wedge, near wedge, partial hollow, or full hollow (sometimes simply hollow) but it's entirely based on my judgment of the razor, not any tangible measurement.
