Thanked: 8Success with old bone scales
Hi All,
Just thought I'd share this if you don't already know.
I was rumaging around my box of bits and found an old set of plain black bone scales. They were a bit tatty but the perfect size for a razor I have.
I took out all blemishes with 120, 240, 400 & 600 grit first.
I then mixed some fabulustre with metal polish paste and hand polished to a high gloss. It is very quick and there is no need to go beyond 600 grit before you polish.
I did initially use my dremel buffing wheel but it is far too agressive, hand buffing / polishing is all that is required.
So I went from a dull, scratched and lightly chipped set of scales to a smooth glossy finish in about 30 minutes. Pic attached

It could be a zebra bone, the black stripey bit not the white stripey bit.

Might have been fossilized bone?
Either way, and inspirational restoration!

Are you guys sure it's not ivory? You know the black ivory they make piano keys from?
Oh did I say nice work as usual Gary? And if you show razor porn could you show a little more skin, i.e. the blade? Tease.
