    Default Alternate wood source

Went shopping with the better half today for some kitchen items. Saw this small Olive wood cutting block and thought it might make some good material for scales. Not too pricey at $16.00 and about 3/4 inch thick. The idea is to halve the thickness by sawing to get enough wood for about 4 sets of scales. That is the idea but haven't tried it yet. Anyway, you may be able to find suitable wood in odd places.

That may serve you well for some killer scales.
You can find some great wood products in the strangest places,I have found large ebony african carvings at garage sales, real cheap.
Broken down solid teak patio furniture in dumpsters (very avid diver).
Large boat salvage yards are a great source for real Lignum vitae, they strip the lignum out of the bronze prop shaft bearings and usually burn it on site.
Old building teardowns are a treasure trove.
Used furniture places almost always have a dumpster on site, busted up table leafs from back in the day are mostly solid cherry or real mahogany, lots of great stuff out there.

Yea, a lot of people overlook scavenging for different woods. The larger the center you live in the better it is. It's hard to think outside the box sometimes too.
