Thanked: 8Opinions please
Hi All,
I'm thinking of putting a form of signature on some of my hi end blades and scales.
Instead of engraving etc..I was going to put a small discreet stone somewhere.
Here's the idea. Where the stud will be will depend on the blade.
You can vote as well.

Looks cool Gary. It's kind of like customizing a Harley. Then you'll be able to match other items on the razor (wedges, pins, etc.) to the stone or vice versa.

Gary, studs may be ok for SOME blades but they would not be a good idea as a restorer's trademark. They wouldn't be enough of an identifier.

I'd have to agree with FiReSTaRT the stud is a very very cool accessory but I think I would go for a more prominent and recognizable trademark.
Hmm Diamond jimps .... talk about decadent.

Thanked: 1The stud as an identifier is a great idea. In order for it to have validity, however, I don't think it should be a bouncing gem. Don't forget, there are some of us out here who use them as well...
It needs to be the same type gem in the identical location for each blade. One out of 50, a super special blade or set of scales, let's say, could have a different gemstone, but it needs to be in the same location.
Don't forget to issue the certificate of authenticity which identifies the location and type of gemstone when you sell the razor.
As good as you are bound to get, believe me, collectors will be looking for that single gemstone... as long as it has a certificate to go with it. Sometimes, the most subtle hint of an identifier is all that is needed. You don't need your name blazened across the blade for people to know it is your work... go for it...

Gary, I think its right that you should have a 'signature' on your work.
But for me, I think etching is far better than stones or studs. I just dont like 'em - they look too 'pimp-ish'.
You're a New Zealander - I would have thought a good 'patch' etched on somewhere would be far more fitting.
Sorry, just my opinion!

Thanked: 8I probably will go with a stud but more than likely you will have to look for it, so it will not be bling (bling is in your face stuff).
Underside of tang inside the scale area etc..a bit like a hallmark. It will be well set so as not to catch etc...

Thanked: 1Just so you know, Gary... I already have a few out there with studs in the butt spacer. So that spot is taken...
