i broke it already
Hi everybody. This morning i closed my razor (dovo bq) and it was touching the scale, so i had to pry it on one side to close it and i broke the scale, i just bought it two weeks ago, how can this happens?
But i think i already have some rust around the pin, could the scale sticked to the metal because of the rust? I dont think the store can do anything about this but i will give it a shot in case they want to exchange it or repair it.
But if they dont what can i do with the razor? Can i buy a razor with scales stronger than cheap plastic?

Thanked: 247You can find oil dispensers with a needle tip that allows you to put a drop very close to the pivot. Then moving the razor back and forth will help the oil "wick" into the pivot and prevent rust.
I have razors that are over 100 years old with scales similar to that...and I broke one a few weeks ago. Mine breaking was not because it was cheap plastic (it lasted 100 years until I got to it).
That said, I have seen a lot of Dovos with scales breaking like that lately. You might try contacting them directly (I have heard they have great customer service).
Back to the scale material. You could have someone make custom G-10 scales for you, they are much heavier, but also much stronger. In truth, a scale should never be pried on nor would I expect much strength to be offered from a scale...I view their function strictly to be as a guard to protect me from the closed blade...and secondarily to protect the blade against light bumps during storage/travel...and tertiary as a thing of beauty (in some cases).
Good luck to you!

i broke it already
To dry them off I just run tissue paper up and down the channel and it seems to be enough to dry it out. I also oil my blade after each use.
Bigger problem is that I don't understand why the scales would warp in such a short time. Ideas??

Thanked: 1072In addition to what has already been said about oiling etc, make sure you dont get the pivot area wet.
Some guys wipe their lather off with a sponge or cloth while shaving. Personally I rinse it off with water, but I'm careful not to get any water near the pivot pin.
