Disinfectant destroying patina on blades?
Best to use a barber type disenfectant . Barbercide or HYDROCIDE . But follow the instruction. No longer than it says. And not on the scales unless your sure what they are. Wood, bone, horn Etc. be real careful.

Hi derman. I can tell about disinfection that stains metal. If it contains iodine it will stain your blade. I had an accident with one of my blades and wiped it of with "jodopax" solved in water. It gave my blade a red tone. I have read about this on different forums and it seems almost impossible to remove.
If you find a solution, please tell us.
PS. Jodopax is a solution for disinfection on animals, mostly used on horses in Sweden.

Thanked: 15I think you are looking at a simple case of rust, many strong disinfectants intended for dilution contain sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) which will cause rapid oxidization.
I saw a similar tho less extreme case recently when i wiped down some restored blades with a new disinfectant before shipping them to their new owners. I was horrified to find they all had light pitting the next day when i went to wrap them up! I was lucky as it was light enough to remove with metal polish. Looking at your blade i think you you're going to have to have to go at with wet'n'dry.
