Thanked: 56When the spine has severe pitting
I was thinking about how to go about saving a razor with severe pitting along the spine.
I had another razor with a worked spine and it gave me the answer
When you work a spine like this you need to make sure the edges that will come into contact with the hone and strop aren't sharp. Just buff it smooth.
The razor isn't finished, I just liked that spine enough to post about it.
Anybody think of a way to improve on this?
Thanks

Thanked: 247What'd you work the spine with? I've never had a hardened razor do anything but laugh at my files. To your question, sorry, I can't think of any way to improve on it. lol. Normally if a razor of mine has severe spine pitting, I use it to practice learning things I'd like to do to razors I wanna keep.

If it's yours and you were going to have to regrind it anyway, I think it's a cool, idea myself, nicely done sir.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Re: When the spine has severe pitting
I think it might look more intentionally designed and a bit more esthetically pleasing if you put a second divot, half the size or smaller, halfway between each of the other larger divots. But that's just my thinking.
