Capacitor help
Hi, I am building a grinder, I got this motor from a neighbor and I need a capacitor to run it. I have not been able to find out what I need to get yet. Here is a picture of the motor information. Any help is appreciated!

Thanked: 247I wish I could help. But all my books just say to replace it with the same size capacitor as the one that's bad. lol. Just for my own curiosity: What'd the motor come out of?

An ice machine. My neighbor fixes all types of things and keeps old parts so I got this one but could probably get more! Hoping to get this one up and running since it is in good shape. It says phase 1 capacitor, uses 115 volts.

Thanked: 247I think I'd go to a Leeson website if I were you. You can probably type in the serial number of the motor, and they'll spit out the info you need. Or call your local HVAC guy and he might be able to tell you. Phase 1 capacitor doesn't really mean anything to me. But I'm only a student.

The capacitor is imortant though, because that is what stops the motor from causing a rift in the time continuim...

Thanked: 1184Air compressor motors for AC sometimes use those round Dual capacitors that are not attached to the motor. They work for both the compressor motor and the fan. You may need to find a good motor guy that can figure this out by questimation, which is an experts guess using his common sense some math and if your not looking the flip of a coin. Or he may even cheat and have a book.
What kind of grinder ? Double wheel or something special ?Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Hope to build the no weld belt grinder that seems popular. If possible I would like to make it multi functional meaning one drive shaft powering multiple points but prob start with one thing at a time.
I have been checking leeson but since this part was in a machine no info has been available yet.

Thanked: 170From you handle, I'm guessing you could be from Minnesota. If you are, PM me and I'll give you a good source in Minneapolis.

Re: Capacitor help
Is that a 1/3 or a 1 Hp motor?
1 hp is enough for a 1" belt setup, 1/3 is too little for anything. I know from experience.

Thanked: 170+1 to epd's comment. My 2x72 belt grinder has a 3hp motor. 2 would probably be enough.
