Default need help from pros !!!!!

hi all, I've just acquired this beautiful Sheffield wedge for really good price. however when I got the razor I found some nasty scratches on it and the blade was ever so slightly warped but I removed about 1mm of steel at the heel and so I can lay it down on hone pretty flat, should not be a problem to hone. however razor has some nice etching on the blade I wanted just to ask your opinion is it worth to try to sand the scratched out or shall I just polish the blade and live with it? How deep is the artwork? A light sanding with some 2000 grit wet/dry automotive may not hurt it. Then give a good polishing. I should also ask, how deep are the scratches?

Then there is always the middle ground, do what you can and live with the rest.

hi thanks for response, from what I can see the sratches slightly shallower then etching , I have some 1500 grit sandpaper that I might try and then use some hot vinegar just on the etching to bring it up, however I'm scared if there would be some minimal scratches left as hot vinegar could pronounce them I bit too.
    regards Rafal

Be careful how you use that vinegar. I would go get the 2000 grit paper.

vinegar can be a bit tricky, one minute to long and blade would go back to sanding, ill wait with it until I get some 2000 grit paper then. thanks for your help

Sand it up and buff, scratches on the back side don’t look too deep and like nun2sharp said you don’t have to buff it all out.

Here’s one I did where the customer did not want to remove all the deep pitting or rescale. Same scales sanded and buffed.

It’s just a matter of time on the buffers, or sand paper and personal preference. That was a nice shaver, took a great edge.

sorry for late reply, i did exactly that removed scratches from back side and on side with etching I was very careful and sanded just around it left some pitting on tang and front side polished with mothers and it looks gorgeous just need to rescale it now and put an edge on it, hope it will be a good shaver.
