Checkering Scales?
Newbie here but it dawned on me that checkering (most often used on wood pistol grips and wood stocks on rifles/shotguns) would be a neat look on a nice wooden scale? I used to do some checkering a few years ago, and did some wood grips, obvisously the hardness of wood would be a factor, but I might give it a go on some scales. Has anyone out there seen checkering patterns done on straight razor scales?

I have seen it, but for the life of me, I cannot find any pics right now. I really like it personally.

Thanked: 2027Have done quite a bit of checkering, actually the harder the material the easier it is to a point, limit yourself to 18 line checkering to begin with,I never mastered the art over 22 line, than it gets really difficult.
I have a friend that owns the most beautifull double rifle I have ever seen,a rigby. He had Purdy restock it 10 yrs ago,The stock and forearm are the highest grade circassion (SP) walnut that can be had.It was done in 32 line, took two yrs to checker it.
Is fun to do.

Thanked: 498Is the process like knurling?
I own a machine shop and we flat knurl from time to time I agree with pixelfixed the harder the material the crisper the lines. Not to mention really sharp tooling is a must.
