alignment scale issue
i read the wiki on the how to fix blades that arent centering in scales.. im not taking a torch to my scales so forget that.. i believe the blade is off balance.. has anybody had luck adding a second inner washer to the side of the razor which favors to rub the scales. i tried rescaling same issue and tried tapping pin with hammer no luck .

Thanked: 3226Are you saying your scales are straight/flat but the razor's spine/tang has a warp/bend?

Thanked: 13245Blade Centering - Straight Razor Place Wiki
The real trick to centering is knowing the cause.. Check the razor on a flat surface,
Those pics in the Wiki are not real clear, here is one that I am working right now, I used the File System to fix this issue
Note the dime in the pics, it makes it very clear to me that the issue was NOT my build but was the fault of the razor maker the real trick is knowing this and coming up with the fix..
Minor issues can use the Pin Adjustments or the Extra Washer, more severe issues I use the File to fix them, and if I can see the issue without the test I might use the Vise and a Torch (the torch is for the steel not the scales)
There is much more detail on Restoration here http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...wers-here.html then anywhere elseLast edited by gssixgun; 03-21-2013 at 03:57 PM.

There are all kinds of fixes for that issue, simplest to file the inside of the scales where necessary to let the blade close without touching.
If that does not work, there are other things that you can do. Here some threads about possible fixes:

Are the scales horn? If so, sometimes a steaming as in the Wiki will help to straighten the shorter side. That solved the problem with a couple 1850s Sheffield's. If the razor has been lying on its side win a damp environment it will also twis or lengthen one scale.
Horn or wood only!
