Scissors shave sharp?
Posting this in the workshop because I figure the true metal heads would have some valuable input. Please feel free to move in need be mods .
Ok, bear with me here... I travel allot and hate to check bags. Since scissors 4" or shorter are allowed, would it be possible to make a pair of scissors from quality steel which could come apart (essentially two kamisori type blades)? Then be used to shave with?
In addition, I'm thinking a French toe or Spanish style would be even less intimidating.
Now I know this is a bit out of the norm but I find myself brainstorming like this during my morning coffee
Thoughts?

Aren't kamisoris small enough to pass the regulations as they are?

I don't think so, I believe they fall under the no fixed handle rule. Although they are about to allow knives that do not lock under 6mm late April. That may allow DE blades in safety razors.

Thanked: 26In theory it would work, as the steel of a good scissors is probably up to the job. Sharpening to a precise angle would be a difficulty, as would stropping. It's a creative solution, but I don't think I'd bother.

My miss’s is a licensed cosmetologist and I sharpen her sheers for her; (she likes the finish off the 12k Naniwa SS I picked up fo my straights)
the angle for the blade is way off from what is needed for a straight.
Could something like what you are asking for be made?
I would say yes but it would be obvious it was intended for something else and I would bet that would raise flags during travel.

Thanked: 2591Vintage Japanese scissors are hollowed on the back, like any other traditional Japanese tool (plane, chisel, knife), if you can find a pair in good shape you can give them a try and see how it works.

Thanked: 4942Take your scissors apart and note that both blades are also bowed. This may make attempting to shave with them even more interesting.
Have fun.

Honing them with the bow would also be quite a challenge.
You could make a pair of 'pretend' scissors, but turning real scissors into shavers would be problematic.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
