Thanked: 12The heel came like that in my Whipped Dog order and immediately turned me off along with the plastic scales yuck. Even had the from at the heel in the first pictures posted before i started butchering it
I've seen new hollow's and how the heel should look and still don't like the look. Reminds me of machinery and when I look at all the other razors without those I find them to be likes pieces of art to me. Those grinds make it look like a gun or something lol rather than a smooth sexy blade I'd enjoy shaving with.Last edited by LikesBBS; 04-07-2013 at 02:40 AM.

I have to say I am genuinely curious as to why you purchased a razor from whippeddog in the first place.
It seems from what you've written here that you have two clear preferences when it comes to razors: it has to be shiny, and it has to be a particular grind/shape. Whippeddog is very well known amongst the community for offering blades that are often anything but shiny that are offered on a you take what you get basis.
This isn't a shot at Larry at all. I've bought from him several times and have no complaints whatsoever,I believe he is very upfront about what he is selling, and I have received nothing but stellar service from him.
Nor is it a shot at you - I think it's great that you know what you want, and that you've figured that out so early on your straight shaving journey. It took me quite a bit longer to realize I liked big old wedge-y Sheffield blades with a healthy dose of patina.
But being unhappy with a razor from whippeddog that isn't shiny and whose shape one doesn't like is kind of like going to a Ford dealer and being unhappy about leaving with a Ford.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Thanked: 12I ordered from whipped dog so I wouldn't spend a fortune on a new blade, strop, brush etc before knowing if I liked SR shaving and Whipped came highly recommended for begginers from many members. I chose the sight unseen deal with all the fixings and I did read that the blade would be used and not perfect, just didn't expect it to be as ugly as it was lol but for roughly 40$ a blade and +50 for everything else I can't complain as I learned many things from that blade and strop (my new strop thanks Larry ^_^).
I hope no posts above came out as insulting Whipped dog, it was mainly just me being picky (I pick apart everything in detail and examine it lol). And I had no idea razors could come in so many variations with points and grinds and all that when I first ordered lol. Was really just in a mad rush to try a SR as I've always wanted to.
And thank you for the terminology gssixgun - seems I like my blades the same way I like my women - without broad shoulders

Just go grab a Dovo Bismarck
I know that's what I'm getting when I decide to get a new blade in the future. They just look so gorgeous!

For some reason, I don't care for how their scales are pointed at the one end lol but that's just my personal taste mind you, if you dig it then awesome. Their scale materials all look pretty cool though.
Which one did you get?
