Question Nickel-silver pinning rods in the Netherlands

I've got the brass rods and they work and look well enough, but I would like to find myself some nickel-silver rods in the Netherlands. Does anyone know where to get them? Or any other workable silvery metal that is soft enough for this purpose (would aluminium work?).

    Thanks!

First of all I suggest you stay with the nickel silver rather than anything else. Getting 1/16" or 1.6mm rod is a problem in the UK as well - there is an Ebay seller (Mick Wardell) who occasionally has it in his knife supplies business so I tend to stock up then. The only other time I bought some was from another Ebay seller in the US but it was much softer than I'd used before so I gave it away.

I found this link but have never needed to buy from them yet.

If you are desperate, send a pm with your address and I'll let you have a 6" rod which should see you through until
    you order some.

Thank you, Rob, for the advice and the offer. I will keep an eye out on Ebay.

The website you sent me charges only 3 pounds for the rods, which sounds good. Then another 5 pounds for shipping and then comes 8.50 pounds for international payment from my bank.

I am in no hurry, so I will ask around in the Netherlands and see if anyone knows where to find some. Stainless steel washers are easy enough, and they go well with nickel-silver rods, right?

Yes that's right - SS washers and Nickel Silver rod go together.

And are there important differences between classifications like A1, A2?

Given the value of the dollar vs the euro, it is often much easier and cheaper to buy from an online American source. In the beginning I too searched for stuff locally. But after a while I decided that if Belgian businesses couldn't be bothered to make a website where I could find their products, they didn't deserve my money.

In the US, you can find everything online, no matter how obscure it is. From pipe making supplies to remote controlled robots to knifemaking supplies. IF there is money to be had, someone will sell it online. In Belgium otoh, most businesses don't even have a simple website. And if you're into making things and crafts, you're considered an odd one out. Although I have to say that the last couple of years, interest in handmade goods is on the rise again.

I did a quick check, Amazon sell nickel-silver rods. It's unbelievable just how many different things they sell! I'll browse some more, see what else they have that can be of use.

In the Netherlands, I think most businesses have a website. There's a clear distinction, though, between companies that wanted a website and those that felt they had to and therefore made one themselves, which usually turns ugly. Being a webdesigner myself, I'm sometimes tempted to politely ask if they want a prettier one.

True. the Dutch are way ahead of us in terms of online presence. doing a search in Dutch language nearly always results in Dutch webpages. It is really sad. Even the local daycare where I live uses an email address in the telenet domain (a national ISP) instead of having their own domain name.

What's the difference between the two? Is it just looks or is there a performance difference to take into account. I've been repinning with brass and never even considered another type.
