New aquisitions.......take a look.... recent wedge convert goes on buying spree !!!
Picked these up yesterday at a local antique shop for $30 for #s 1, 2 and 3.
1) Charles Jackson, Sheffield, horn handle, 8/8 MEGA WEDGE! semi restored(by me) If I had to guess how hard this is based on sharpening time, well, it had a tiny nick in the blade, I mean like a grain of sand. It took me 30 mins on the 1000 grit to get it out!! This is gettin the C.J. ground off and my initials stamed on it instead. S P L Also I'm waiting for some new silver Dovo pins to come in the mail.
2) Wade & Butcher, WASHINGTON RAZOR, CELEBRATED Washington Razor engraved on blade, 6/8 wedge
3) P. Kegler and Co. Boston, other side says " Franklinite Steel, NJ."
Handles are horn but trash, making a new set from ebony or desert ironwood, quarter hollow, 6/8 wedge. not much on french points but this one I like for some reason.
4) actually payed $50 for this one, Frederick Reynolds Sheffield, frameback, horn handle dyed to imitate tortoise shell, heck of a nice polish, I think 6/8 or 7/8,
THIS IS ONE HEAVY BLADE FOLKS!!! and man does it shave great.

They are some lovely pieces. I only got into the wedges recently, but I'll definitely get 1-2 more for my rotation of mostly bi-concaves.

Hi,
May I ask from where do you order the Dovo pins?
I found someone on ebay that sells pins here, but I don't know if they are the real deal, or just something that could be picked up at any knife type place.

The material's fairly easy to find. Brass nails and washers. DOVO pins can be found at www.classicshaving.com. Definitely the way to go if you like the silver look.

What they're selling are 1/16" brass nails with #0 brass washers. Here's the best way to get around this:
PINS -- 1/16" brass nails (I couldn't find them locally) or 1/16" brass rod stock (any hobby shop that sells stuff for RC cars). The advantage of having nails is that they only have to be peened on one side.
WASHERS -- You need #0 for the outside (both wedge and pivot pin) and #0W for between the tang and each scale at the pivot pin. Available at www.microfasteners.com.
I may have to order some up soon. Another place to look at is www.smallparts.com.
