That would certainly affect my consideration of purchasing their hones.

Thanked: 351Chrisl is right, any of the diamond plates will lap Shapton resin bond ceramic hones. I think it's important to remember that Shaptons are NOT like the Spyderco Ceramic hones, they are not fired ceramics but rather crushed and graded ceramics bonded with a resin of sorts (think along the lines of epoxy) and thus any normal lapping procedure should work with them. Chris Moss did note that it was rather tiresome to use wet/dry and I have found the same with hones such as the Norton combo... getting a diamond plate just makes the work so much easier/faster though you're still gonna have to do some serious rubbing if the hone you are working on is not close to flat already.
Now, if only this thread would go to sleep so I can forget about Shaptons for a while......<sigh>. I'd really like to order a set, but I've got my eyes on a new lathe for the shop and I really need to save my money for that first!

Thanked: 26I've already decided to get the Shapton #16000. How does the Shapton 8000 GlassStone compare to the DMT Dia-Sharp D8EE? Thanks.
