That is awesome. it doesnt take much on the DT. I would do 30-50 with just water and get crazy sharp edges. Great stones.

My best edges off of these stones has been the finest stone (Welsh Thuringian) first with plain water (20 laps) then 20 with Smith's honing solution straight off of the Norton 4k/8k

I didn't go up to the "WT" on purpose, wanted to have a comparison between stopping at the LM and going through all 3 stones

Shaved with it this morning......it wasn't quite all of what I was hoping for from the arm/leg hair tests...a bit of irritation, but wasn't bad. Going to try touching it up again on the LM with glycerin (I happen to have some of this on hand already and have heard good things) and stropping with leather only, no linen. Then I'll do the same couple of tests moving up to the finer stone later in the week.

After that, I'll try going straight from the 8k to the different stones, without progressing through all 3 of them. If I find it's just as good for me to go straight from 8k to the finest one, I have a friend who could probably benefit from either one of these other hones for some woodworking/carving tools. (Currently uses the sandpaper method, wants to get a finishing stone, but doesn't really have the money to spend to try finding one he likes)

Like I said though, my honing skills are pretty hit or miss still...so take this more as an account of my experiences, not a review of the stones

    just another update:
Tried shaving with the same blade again a couple days ago, touched up for a few laps on the LM then 20 laps on the WT with water followed by 20 with glycerine.......horrible, horrible, terribly uncomfortable shave. Haven't had razor burn that lasted like that in years

So, I figured something wasn't right. Today I took that razor (and one other just in case I still couldn't get this one right) right back to the bevel. Norton 1k/4k/8k then grabbed the LM again. Light as light could be I did 20 laps with a very light slurry, adding a couple drops of water every 5 laps, then 25 on plain water

I only did a single pass shave (WTG), but WOW! Smoothest blade I've shaved with yet, and my face feels (to the touch) like it usually feels after a wtg & xtg pass

I've done more practice honing in the past week than I have in the past 9 months, and have corrected a couple problems I was having...so I'm going to try taking this one further with the WT hone, but not until I have a few more shaves off this LM edge for comparison

I just read through the whole tread(it took a while). I've decided to get the three stone package as my first stones ever. Right now I'm working with lapping film and have managed to take a razor from totally dull to shave ready. Looking forward to trying some real stones though. For the mojo.

Those don't take many laps to make a difference, I've had the same results doing exactly the same as you

I thought about that later, I should probably have some handy just in case!
