Good thing I already made my purchase, and that would still be a deal compared to a decent sized Escher.

I got a good shave off of the LM. I took my toolmakers microscope and looked at the scratch pattern. I honed the same razor on my Escher stone for about 40 strokes of heavy slurry to light slurry. The scratch pattern was very fine with the Escher. much finer than the LM. I have not received the DT and the Black/Green slate as of yet. I tried a Bismarck razor with the same results. The LM is not as fine as the Escher, at least mine is not.

even tho i only got the LM I was implying that the 3 stone set not just the LM was the new Escher...I should probably pick up one of those black/green hones too...

Had a small honing session toghether with Amund (Blix) today, honed a few razors and took some pics along the way.

I learned a few things today:

    1. I need to make some sort of jig for my USB microscope to make it easier to take pics, and better, more consistent pics.
    2. How the light from the microscope hits the edge affects how the scratches in the edge show.
    3. 200X magnificaton show scratches in a edge you otherwise think is mirror smooth.
    4. Honing a razor while takning pics of every step in the progression takes a he** of a long time (Amund honed three razor in the same time)

The first pics is a Gotta 120 13/16 full hollow.

This pic shows the edge after bevel set on Chosera 1K, ~30 strokes on Naniwa SS 30 and ~50 strokes on Naniwa SS 8K

Then we have the Dragons Tongue, first is after 20 strokes on medium to heavy slurry, then 20 strokes after first dilution, 20 strokes after second dilution and last ~50 strokes on plain water. I checked the edge after ~30 and 40 strokes on water but didn't take pics, but the difference from 30 to 50 stokes is near to nothing.

Last is the Llyn Melynllyn, same progression as on the DT, and pretty much the same results when honing on just water, the difference from 30 to 50 strokes was very little.

We also did four identical C.V. Heljestrand framebacks with different finishers (Amund did three since I was busy taking pics of the Gotta )

Top left: Llyn Melynlly, very tiny bevel (Or I did something wrong with the scope )
    Top right: Shapton GS 30K
    Bottom left: Amund's Thuringian
    Bottom right: My Thuringian

As you can see there's not much difference between the two Thuris and the LM, but as I said above, the light might fool you a bit.

QUOTE=Leon;920875] I think that big, old, chunky wooden box might have made the shipping cost even higher.

Anyone got a big, old wooden box too? Mine is really old (and smells "old"). Looks to be many decades old. Unfortunately, no labels are visible.[/QUOTE]
