at the beginning of this thread we started with 50 strokes on water(with the LM) to make sure everyones honing from bevel set to the 8k was up to snuff. coming off the 8k 20 to 35 was great 50 for me was a over kill coming from a 8k to the LM on lite slurry to water 15 to 20 strokes was the spot for me .

Thanked: 993Nope. I just shaved another one, finished on oil, and it was fantastic. Now maybe my skin is different, who knows....but it was a very pleasant shave.
In my honing, I've always used slurry as a mechanism for progressing TO water strokes, and not as a final touch in and of itself.
IME, I've found that slurried edges don't quite feel tweaked in, and that if there is a smidgen of harshness coming off water, then 9 times out of 10 a regular stropping will take care of that.

I guess I missed it. Is there a link to the vendor of the stones? Thanks in advance.

Thanked: 993Search for Llyn Melynllyn on ebay, and you'll find a bunch. The vendor's name is aj1001 I believe, or aj101, something like that.
Anyway, send him an email...he's fantastic to deal with. Very courteous and quick communication.
Good luck.

Thanked: 48d*mn you guys did it again ... KA-Ching, 3 stones on the way, got them all in 8" x 3"!
Do these stones need to be soaked or do you just splash and go? I plan to lap them with either my dmt 8c or my dmt duo sharp 325/600 starting on 325 and finishing on 600. Any thing special to know about these stones? Tricks? Things to avoid?
I will be using these following my norton 1/4/8 in place of my naniwa 12k and hope to get a smoother shave off of them and a better feel then the naniwa or nortons.Last edited by groovyd; 02-19-2012 at 11:52 PM.
