Thanked: 1I'm test driving a snipe program on my computer now thanks to azjoe. Looks alright but I think the REAL benefit of this WOULD BE getting me out of the emotional auction crap where I stress over it for days before losing it. I think I'll also try scarface's tactic of bait sniping. It would allow me to put my name on it (because I honor the SRP eBay list at all times) which would allow others who honor the list the same courtesy and then snipe my max. Kinda like peeing on a tree...this one's mine you guys...and snipe it for the final buy.

There's certainly more flexibility with the software, but basically ANY snipe bid is going to be your max, so I've never used it and never sweated it much. If I'm willing to win by a dollar more, as opposed to losing by a dollar more, then I didn't really put in my max bid for the snipe, right? The only thing that irks me is too many people throwing a proxy bid early or early bidding wars by stupid software or people that nibbles the price up unnecessarily. I've won well over 200 auctions without software, and lost maybe 20 due to somebody who was willing to pay more. That's all an auction really is, anyway; seller wants to sell to who will pay the most. Real auctions don't have time limits to play against, so ebay is somewhat unique in that respect, and it favors the buyer. When somebody is willing to pay so much more than what something is worth, well, then they are either idiots (and my snipe bid will force them to pay more) or they place a higher personal value on the item than the actual value. If I'm looking for a deal, but freaky people are paying 20% over actual value, then I either have to beat that or wait until the freak-out subsides.

I'm so sick of sniping software!!!
I use an app to bid with. The main reason for this is that I can change my mind on my decision to bid up until the last min.
The only thing that I do feel is unfair about them is that if you bid on eBay there's a set minimum on an item were as on the app you can win by the 1 and 2 cents.

Thanked: 1184Just my 2 cents here but I don't mind guys using it. I can beat it if I really want something. I never used it but felt it a few times. The key is not in the last 10 or 20 seconds but in the last 2 or 3. MAX bid what your top price is and if you don't get it you didn't want it bad enough. For those who hate it I say run em up. I have bid a few dollars on junk and seen what I thought was a software bid. It takes some guts but I ran 1 up 40 dollars more than it was EVER worth and felt a whole lot better after that. I am over it now and have my style. It goes like this. If I want it, your not going to get it. I'll just pay to much for it LOL. Now if I lose I can laugh and think, "BOY that sucker is worse than I am."
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 4249There really no need for snipping, just bid the maximum amount that you are willing to pay and let it ride, if you win great, if not there will be another one coming up soon more then likely.

I have always just do my bid in the last 10 seconds, waiting for one to end now so I can do that. Never cared about snipers, cuz I just shoot back.

Thanked: 884I used to do that with all my auctions. I got tired of people noodling the bid up a buck or two at time.
I bit the bullet and signed up for auctionsniper.com and I still put my top bid in, but it doesn't fire it until the last 5 seconds. That way if I win it, fine. If I don't no big deal because it went for more than I was willing to pay.
Stinks to have to play that way but another nice thing about the sniping software is that I don't have to be sitting there to throw a last few seconds bid at something.Member Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club, participant SE Asia War Games 1972-1973. The oath I swore has no statute of limitation.
