Thanked: 26Yeah. Well, to be truthful, I bid at the last minute, but lately buying razors I almost always only bid on something that's not got any bids. As mean as I might have sounded, I figure if someone wants something enough to show a bid, I'll just stay out of the way. As you say, it's not like I need another one. My specialty seems to be divining condition from bad photos, so I think that's why I'm getting things easy, without competition.
I'll always go $15 on something that might pan out OK or maybe not, and I've gotten a couple of honeys, thanks to really rotten pix, so I'm staying ahead. I got one the other day with one tiny blurry photo that had just a little rust on the grip and a pure black blade, but no wear on the spine and no chips. I thought about the black blade that nothing can be that bad so I bought it for $10. Turns out the whole blade was perfect--unused--and the black was entirely shadow.

Thanked: 55I usually like to place a minimum bid and if anyone else comes along and beats that, about an hour or so before the auction ends I'll top that bid by $1.
If I'm now the highest bidder I know that the other person probably doesn't want it badly either. I'll then determine my max bid and just forget about it.
If they've put in a much higher max bid I'll generally just walk away.
If it looks like a good deal but there aren't many bidders I'm more interested if I notice that the item description isn't written the way more others in that category are meaning that many people looking for that items may not have seen it.

This is pretty much ebay in action for me also. I love fuzzy pics or no pics. I love poor descriptions or no descriptions. I'd like to think I have a good sense of what is worthwhile and what is junk. I never bid any more than pocket change, I'm never sorry when someone outbids me. You can't handle or look ay anything on the bay, and after all, you're buying from strangers for the most part. That's why I never spend real money on ebay.
Having said all that, you would be honestly amazed at what I've bought on ebay for basically the cost of shipping.
