Stinks to have to play that way but another nice thing about the sniping software is that I don't have to be sitting there to throw a last few seconds bid at something.

I really don't think it stinks buddy. It's a tool you use and everybody has the same chance to play that way if they want to. At live auctions you will see guys bidding on things and on the phone at the same time with the buyer. It's just a high tech. version of that. I don't use it for 2 reasons. I update my bids as I win or lose on items, sometimes within minutes. Sometimes I let one go just because I see the other bidder is new and really trying to get a razor. I don't need em all ! AND, if I used it I would probably have to sell my truck to pay for razors.

    Sell your truck? LOL

I haven't changed my pricing tactics. I figure what I'm willing to pay for an item and put that price in the program and "walk off" so to speak.

AS for the list that gawker mentioned, that post is 5 years old. Ebay changed it so it's harder to figure out who is doing what so the list went away.

I think the main thing to realize here is that you can't change the way other people do things. You adapt to the reality of how things operate, or you lose--that's all there is to it.

Me, I wait until the last 4 seconds, and bid the maximum I'm willing to pay. I lose a lot, and I win sometimes, too.

The amateur way to play the game is to start early and bid often: the only effect that has is to build up higher bids than would happen any other way, as people push things up just for the joy of outbidding someone else, and that's why sellers love auctions--the mass hysteria that drives up prices beyond what they would normally be.

In my own field I once watched a pair of anxious bidders push a $30,000 item up to over $110,000. The "winner" confessed to me later that he must have been out of his mind, and he'll never get that money back.

If you play their game that way, IMO you're just a sucker with a loose grip on reality, not a good guy trying to play fair in a field of cheaters.

A W&B hollow ground barbers use with the stamp on the blade and tang. It was $67 up to the last 60 seconds, I barely got out bid. Lol, it was fun though. I will get one some day.

Here's my 3 cents on this since I'm always posting in the "show and tell" section.
First off let me just say that none of us needs another razor..... I don't use sniping software myself cause a)I didn't know what it was called/ who made it and b) I didn't know that you could get it for free. So if you use it good for you. If you're like me and love the thrill of it all ..perfect!

If you want something bad enough just bid $570.00

Ebay isn't about morals. It's about the highest bid. People are there to sell their wares for as much as they can possibly get (especially since Ebay takes a chunk of your winnings anyway). You don't get to do the Super Bowl over. You don't get your ear back stepping in the ring with Mike Tyson. You don't get the girl when your wing man suddenly decides that he wants to play the part of Tyler Durden in Fight Club and you don't win at hungry, hungry hippos...if you're not hungry enough.

In the Famous words of JimmyHAD (my new mentor) that I still live by

"You still have $570 in your pocket instead of another razor that you don't need and you're sad ? I'll make a prediction, if you stick with this insanity long enough the day will come when you'll be relieved when you "lose" the auction. Soon the day will come when you'll be an objective observer and that will be all you'll need. At least IME. Remember Cheetah, you ain't taking any of it with you when you go. "

This is the only one that got away that still hurts though. I should have bid $6.07 more....LOL

Disclaimer: So either crap or get off the pot. Please don't hold any of this against me if I ask you how to shave with, hone or polish one of these in the near future.....LOL ©2012 CMP
