I had a similar problem earlier this year; turned out the problem was at the vendor's end. The message that both of us saw was something like, "Payment waiting to clear"...not a particularly helpful notification! I cancelled the original transaction, and paid again...with the same result. If I recall correctly, he hadn't verified his PayPal account in quite a while, so it had been disabled. Once he reactivated his account, the payment went through.

It's the same when you are stupid.

Both ebay and paypal want to take your money because they get a commission. At least with US accounts you could have several funding sources like bank account, credit card, debit card linked to your account and you could select the money to come from one of them when making a payment.
With some of them the transfer is instant, with some it needs to clear, but ebay should count the item as purchased if the payment is made.
It is quite possible that ebay would block payments that are not instant, so you may have to first have funds transferred from your bank account to paypal where they are available for instant payments.
On the plus side there is always another razor.

My account is linked but I also have a PayPal credit line available to me for when I just HAVE to have a certain item.

I had mine set up that way until some bogus charges started showing up...what a pain to straighten out!!
So I now use it a credit card that I almost never use. I used to have it linked to my primary credit card and once it was hacked, my card had to be replaced, etc. Now I only use it with one I don't care about....easier to watch for problems, it has fraud protection AND i don't care if it has to be replaced.
As an aside, the Paypal resolution process sucked. They were no (ZERO) help.Just call me Harold

Yeah, I'd rather not give Paypal access to my account details but it turned out that the money on my pp-account was a couple dollars short because of a small charge that Paypal added so I decided to use an E-card that my bank generates to substitute the missing $2.
I don't know if you have them in the states but an E-card is a virtual credit card with a spending limit and expiry date that you set yourself and they can't be linked back to your bank account.
I use them as much as possible when buying stuff over the net, especially if I don't completely trust the company.Last edited by Baxxer; 08-22-2014 at 06:52 PM.
