Feel free to buy me something, and I will pay you back as soon as I sell off more of MY collection!

So I bid on something and git the high bid but now it says, 'pre bidding' compete and 'you may have won'. That and the apparent 20 percent fee to buy things makes this sketchy!

The rules explain that you'll now go against the live auction (over the next 3 days) and will be notified on Monday if you've won.

Ok that makes sense. I bid pretty low so I didn't think I was going to get it in the first place. Neat to see all the cool razors though.

    Default Epic Razor Auction

It shows the live auction online. When someone bids there it will show up online. At least that the way the others I have been in have done.

Yes, pre-bidding is complete...then the real game begins...when the auction goes live, if you want to make sure you get that item, you must be logged on, and you are now an, "internet bidder", so the highest pre-bid is the starting point, if no-one else on the internet or actually at the auction bids, it's yours if your pre-bid is the highest. If someone else on the internet or "on the floor" at the auction bids higher, you lose.

So why pre bid and not just wait for the actual auction to start?

    Exactly.

But in the off chance no-one bids on the item, you will win.

edited to add: and we all know how many times we've been successful placing that $25.00 bid on the NOS razor with 6 days to go on the auction....

There'd be a lot of reasons, not least of which is timezones.

Since Morphy's is only 3 zones behind me, it's not a big deal. I've done internet auctions hosted in Sheffield, and that was a bit more of a pain.

Absentee bids are also a really great way of circumventing Stupid Auction Brain, wherein you watch other people outbid you and think, "oh, surely I want it a LITTLE more" and you up your bid... Until finally you're frothing at the mouth and hiring assassins to eliminate rival bidders.
