    Default Selling on Ebay

My sincere apoligy if I offended anyone. I had no idea at all this was an ethnic slur. I understand your concern and will adhere to your wishes.

Again, I apologize and did not wish to hurt anyone's feelings. I know the feeling, being Italian when I was in the Army, no one could pronounce my last name, so they would just call me alphabet. I did not like it then and I do not like it now.

    Default Selling on EBAY

A follow up to my previous post. Having read the line again. I have a thought.

If saying that word is racist, then to say Italians do not make good computers would be the equivelant. Is that racist or a fact? Russian leather better than U.S. leather, is that racist or fact? Sheffield Steel better than German Steel, is that racist or an opinion, Japanese Water Stones better than Arkansas Stone for razors, is that racist or a fact?

Agreeded some people may take offense to that word and I crtainly will not mention it again. But to state that a particular place dosen't produce a good product befudles me on how this can be taken as racist.

I guess buying a Honda with the reasoning that it is a better value than a US made product is racist.

This site is supposed to fun talking about straight razor shaving. How the heck did this get into it

    Vince,
I think his issue was with me hurredly typing "Paki" instread of saying "specific sets made in Pakistan, a country which may or may not be capable of producing quality razors". I guess I could have slowed a bit and typed "Pakistani made" but that really has the same issues he was complaining about.

It was not the point of my post anyway and actually the way I wrote it was to point out nothing more that their sets were $30 instead of $140 yet I still do a brisk business on mine. Those $30 sets may be fine but mine were of known quality based on being a known seller whish was what the post was about. If more was read into it then maybe it was the reader having issues with race.

I'm not overly into political correctness myself.
I think sometimes things are said without much thought that then go on to offend.
My intention was to raise awareness to how the statement sounded and its potential to offend. I hope in doing so I did not offend

    Paul,
No problem. I just think more was read into this than intended. You were not the one to point it out anyway, you simply explained the "why" based on where you live. Nothing wrong with that.
I will be careful on my use of the short version but if commenting on a specific set of know poor quality I'll call it what it is <g>.

I have to agree that the abbreviated word is really only used in a racist way on this side of the pond and saying it out loud in public could get you into a lot of trouble with the authorities. Yes, PC may have gone a little too far now but I don't think that avoiding this word is too difficult. I'm sure it wasn't meant in this manner and we are all guilty of using words that other find unacceptable at times (I was also asked to edit a post for using a similar word today which I had no idea was offensive as I'd seen it used all the time in the same way.) I'm sure as your auctions get nearer the end people will start bidding vincebell. I know I have my eye on them and would have bid already if I didn't have bids on auctions that finish earlier already. When I lose those I'll soon bid on yours.

    Murph,
I must agree. I often hear things hear during the day that I am amazed at. I know those who said it intended no harm but in certain circles it is bad.

Vince's point is important too. Whether a short form or typed out most often the intent of mentioning that name IS to point out poor quality which would be racist. To be more correct and fitting for both sides of the pond, maybe we should simply mention that for $30 (for a set) or $6 (for a razor) you get EXACTLY what you paid for...............of course that would be unfair to the truly great bargains on the Polish made razors posted about here. Those I am meaning to try !

What!!! you can get in trouble with the law for just saying something? Man I knew my ancestors left for a reason.

While the government is chipping away at our rights little by little you can still say anything without getting arrested, no matter how offensive. Case in point that shock jock who has the media up in arms over his "racist"/ "sexist" remarks. People think he should lose his job and there are probably a few who think he should be lynched or worse but nobody thinks he did anything illegal. just in bad taste.

    One thing to remember:

This is a label nothing more. It only has the power to hurt if the sayer intends it to, AND the recipient allows the speaker to have the superior position by recognizing the slur as derogatory.

I'm the current high bidder on one of your razors Vince . Hope it stays that way . I've been getting sniped like hell lately on ebay , coming in second place on all of them , so I know my bids aren't too low . However , I also won two fairly nice (IMO) razors for $.99 each because no one else bid on them . Getting sniped doesn't bother me , that's just how it works , sometimes I'm the sniper and somtimes I'm the snipee . I wish you the best with your razors . I looked at all of them and they all look GREAT ! .....Dave (aka jamesg2849)
