Mark you are absolutely right - like I say its not the words fault, its the fault of the users. I dont defend its use - only try to sit on the fence a little and offer some perspectives. I find the world offensive and you will note that I do not use it at all, I just think that our brethren over the sea might not understand the true complexities of it all, and tried to offer some explanation.

I used to be a doorman and worked with one of the best doorman in the world (IMHO) who was from Columbia, and the amount of people that spat the "p" word at him was laughable. Its ignorance, nothing more and nothing less.

And hey - I'm Ginger. I bet you picked on the Ginger kid in your school..

    Cheers

    Si

You got me there Tony! (The old Landies were indestructible though!)

And Si, yeah, I confess, there were a few ginger-minger comments thrown around at school. I'm guilty as charged!

    Default Getting back on track

Whew! That Pakistani business opened one can of worms! I'm not getting involved but maybe this will give a slant on the ebay selling thing. I've used a straight razor for years and one day, about a year ago, I thought 'might be a good hobby trading them on eBay'. (Yes, I know, what we newbies think of, eh?) So away I went. And it went well. I think this is due to, simply, treating people fairly, describing goods accurately and treating customers with respect. I knew from previous long experience in a 'redbrick' business that your reputation is the hardest thing to earn and the easiest thing to lose, so I set out to build a decent trading reputation. It seems to have worked. I now sell shave-ready razors as well as collectable and 'work needed' razors, alongside associated stuff. I won't compare myself to the recognised honing experts but I know darn well that any customer who buys from me is acting on faith and that the razor they get had better have the very best edge I can put on it. In fact a SR razor does not leave me until I'm totally happy that I'd use it on my own face. This is called setting a standard and I want my standard at the top of the eBay mast, not flapping around two-thirds of the way down. Yes, I run this as a business. I don't know how to do it any other way. So if any of you guys ever get one of mine I'd enjoy the feedback. The razors I sell are not 'as new restorations' (though most are pretty damned good) - someone said previously that they sell razors that shave - that's my thinking. There are already a lot of guys out there who do ground-up restores so I'll leave that (for now, at least!) to them. So to any newbies reading this - not all eBayers are selling rubbish!

[quote=majurey;103193That said, I haven't raised the issue of calling a substandard blade from Pakistan a 'Paki' on this forum because clearly there is zero racist intent. Just an unfortunate connotation to us Brits who live with a alternate (racist) meaning. However, I still couldn't bring myself to type 'Paki' when just talking about blades. My own hang-up I guess! [/quote]

..And to be fair that's what galls me...when the racist b4st4rds win by the overly hand-wringing PC brigade removing words and images that are only offensive when used by the bigotted minority...I mean I was accused of racism for flying the George Cross. Quite how this is racist escapes me but it's time the majority of the multicultural population stood firm in the midde ground and took our liberty back from the nutters at each end of the spectrum.

    And back on topic......

Mr blueprinciple/invisible edge. There was debate about Kamisori blades on here a while ago and if I remember the last we heard they were going to make improvements. Now I know you sell them so was wondering if you have seen an improvement in quality? What are your thoughts?

    Vince:

I've bought bought two of your Razors, I would have bought more, but I got sniped by other str8 RAD-aholics... so as far as I'm concerned your razors are getting out there and they are appreciated! Both of them shave fine...

    George Westenholm & Son , IXL-HAND HONED-SHAVE READY
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...7603&rd=1&rd=1

    and

    Buckeye B. S. C. E.-HAND HONED-SHAVE READY
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...3721&rd=1&rd=1

Your razors are part of my ever growing rotation of razors.

I shaved with the Westy yesterday morning, she shaves fine, and I shaved with the Buckeye last week and she shaves fine also....

I'm still very much in the learning curve, so for me a good shave is a shave where I have no knicks, cuts, or razor burn... the finer points & refinements pf str8 razor shaving will come later as I gain more experience and practice.

I'm also in the learning curve with regards to touching up a str8, and stropping before use.

I've been following the general advice on the forum to let a str8 "rest" 24-48 hours before touching up with .5 micron diamond pasted paddle strop &/or .5 chromium oxide pasted paddle strop and then stropping on my hanging leather strop... I'm not quite sure yet if I'm actually improving the condition of the razor or hurting it...

Keep up the good work, I think the eBay thing presents both opportunities and challenges.

For one thing I think it's amazing that total strangers, thousands of miles appart can link up and do business...

I'm sure with practice you'll find a way to present your work and your wares to the str8 shaving public...

All the best! Good luck! Break a leg!

    Tony Parker
