The internet and its anonymity allows people to behave in ways they wouldn't dream of if they had to do it face to face. The internet can be great but its downside is that it really enables the worst of us to marinate in their own oddity.

Thanked: 315Well, fortunately it sounds like these interactions don't happen too frequently. Some people are just inconsiderate and I don't understand what logic leads them to believe that rude/disrespectful behavior. I have recently made a couple low offers (in comparison to the asking price) recently. A few of the items I felt had overinflated prices. I believe most of those items are still for sale or ended without selling. However, I'm not going to try and convince them their merchandise is junk. If I do leave a message with the offer I try to be respectful. Ultimately, it doesn't matter what I think it is worth because I'm not the one selling it. And yet HE wanted to buy it...
Unfortunately, a lot of people will behave this way face to face as well. They either think they know better than others or that they can pressure people to get what they want.
Other than Craigslist, I don't think I've sold anything on other sites. In the past I used the local classified or called into our local "party line" where you could list your item on the radio over the phone.

Thanked: 169To his credit, once he realized that I am not getting rich off of the item and am just trying to break even he backed off. He seems ok, apart from the rubbish first impression. I personally tend to offer a fair price relative to the item form the starts. If I can't afford to quite pull an offer over the top for whatever reason but come close to a fair one, I will make it and just note that it is the best I could do at the time but I understand if they are holding out for more. Mainly, I know how frustrating it is when you have nice stuff up and someone thinks they are slick offering you pennies on the dollar.

Thanked: 169I haven't had much bad luck on CL, but the thing with CL is you almost have to be on constant attack/guard with ppl contacting you and it is draining.

Thanked: 12The seller seems to think "What he has is Gold" and is "selling it as if it was "Platinum Gold", when it's only worth the price of scrap iron, if that". " I bought a Gillette Razor listed as a "Fat Boy" when it was only "Gillette Slim Adjustable" When I called the seller on it he called me a liar, among other things. Yes it seems to be the standard as of late. At least to me it seems that way.

Thanked: 433I do all my Ebay sales with an "or make offer", I know what my bottom price is and as long as I get that or better they can try every trick in the book or insult me all they want, as long as I get my money I could care less, it's all part of the Ebay game.

Thanked: 458I've had one in the last couple of months, but like you, don't get them often. I told the guy that he probably didn't know what he was talking about, he got mad, told me he wouldn't buy from me, and I sent him a response letting him know that he'd been added to my banned buyer list (which I think only includes two people in 15 years) because I don't do risky sales.
There's nothing on the internet that filters out people with really odd judgement or mental problems, so you're bound to get one once in a while.
Who knows, maybe it's like the movie Falling Down, and we're the bad guys and don't even know it!!

Agree, and that's what one of the things that is so nice (and so rare) about this forum and its members. I've been on here going on 2 years, and I can count on one hand the number of times I've had someone be rude or even just short, disagreeable or cranky. Thankfully for me, especially when I was starting out, the forum membership tolerates and supports the uninformed, nurturing them along. It's fun to be part of such a group!
