Like I said some time ago Mr L was telling me that one thing you never want to do ever is take the likeness of the Grim Reaper and put it on anything cause the real dude doesn't like it at all and you don't want to get him mad at you. Luckily for many shavers out there the reaper is working overtime these days keeping up but if death ever takes a holiday you all better hide those razors pronto.
Of course if you want Mr L can keep the Reaper away from you guaranteed. He has a special this month. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 480Not that long ago, I spotted a Lifetime blade stuffed into some cheapy replacement scales. Hone wear, yes. Rot? not a bit! One of those "if you want this one, you gotta buy these 4 other blades" I had to let it go. I'm not as crazy as some of these guys, and without the skelly, whats the point?

Well Chevhead was essentially correct - the blade itself would have turned out nicely if not for a hairline crack that turned up towards the heel of the razor under all the rust and gunk.
Thanks to 10Pups who put me in contact with Voidmonster who had a Lifetime DD Blade only and was kind enough to send it my way - thanks Zak!
The scales themselves turned out very nicely, Val said they look great and really "pop" when you see them, and thus this DD Grim Reaper has been brought back to life.
Now - bringing this blade back to life was a lot of fun, now if I could only transform it into a couple of nice 9/8 W&B spike points....
Val at the Gentleman's Den did the restore, great job as always, and here are some pics of the razor all cleaned up:

so are you saying that you bought the reaper from the start of this thread?
Are you concerned about cel rot starting?Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

That's the one - figured I'd take a risk, and according to Val he was quite surprised in what good shape the scales were in - he said they polished right up and looked solid - so that's about all I have to go on and I trust his opinion....but cell rot...one of those things you can't predict...all I can do is make sure I store it properly.

I recall reading different ideas on cel rot prevention from soaking the scales in various products to varnishing/coating the insides etc, I dont know if I would be game to take it on, but i am pretty slack where maintenance is concerned
It looks good though, have you given it a spin?Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Thanked: 480Excellent restore. I knew the original blade was junk, I'm glad you were able to find a replacement.
I have not handled a LOT of Reapers, but the few I have, and a few others I came across that had scales that I believe to be from the same manufacturer, had less "cell rot" problems than they had cracking problems. They seem to get brittle more often than gassy. ( same cant be said for me) Just don't squeeze it in the center and you should be worry free for a long while (with any luck!)
