Win the stenton? I was spooked by the pitting and the maker's mark being eroded was a major turn off as well.

Wow that is a beast! The pitting and maker's mark don't bother me. I would be more concerned about what might be a crack near the stabilizer on the back side of the blade. If there is a crack, it's not visible on the front of the blade.

It's going to lose some height though and a stenton got absolutely battered down a few weeks ago.

Looks good to me. That's a serious chunk of steel.

Nice blade for sure. I don't think it would lose a whole lot of width, the edge seems pretty clean to me. Someone has a smile on their face, that's for sure!

With a blade that large, I wonder what kind of changes to your technique would be needed.

I foresee some ear nicking due to the extra length.

It is a monster.

I have ones bigger. You have to feed out weight going with gravity and feed some in going against. You can also shave half your face before rinsing your blade. They otherwise shave normally.

It's a forging flaw at the heal. Common on the old Sheffields. It will effect nothing but the cosmetics of the blade.

Almost looks like just local pitting from contact with the scales...
