Thanked: 292Any time a package has to go through US Customs, there is no way of telling how long it will take to arrive. I ordered something that shipped from China. According to the tracking, it took about 3 days processing through China Post. It took about 2 days to travel from China to the USPS facility in Chicago O'Hare. It then took ten days for processing and traveling the last 25 miles to my house. Go figure.

Do the honorable thing - You were prepared to pay for it in the beginning. You got what you wanted - so pay for it!

Thanked: 15I've messaged him again. I'll keep at it. He may be gone for the holidays. I guess I'll contact ebay too.

I recently had the same thing happen on the bay. A shaving brush from NY. Tracking showed it leaving NY and then nothing for 2 months. After 2 weeks I opened a case and the seller refunded my $. When it showed up two months later I contacted ebay and they said as far as they were concerned the case was closed. I emailed the seller and asked for his phone #.
We spoke on the phone and he was amazed that I let him know. He said I could return the brush, or take 20% off the purchase price and pay him that, as a 'reward' for my honesty. Guy was from Europe and kept repeating how much he appreciated my honesty. I didn't see any other way to handle it.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Of course there is only one correct answer and you know it.
Good job on trying to contact him.
99% of those eBay guys are just like us. Not a business. Not taking shipping charges off of our taxes. Just regular working guys trying to move excess equipment. None of what we/they sell are life or death, make or break items but it still stings a little to have to eat one.

I'm glad you finally got that beautiful Grelot! And yeah, obviously you now have to pay him. Ebay policies and personal honor and integrity are two different things (I hope that didn't sound pedantic-I'm sure you're an honest person). I like Jimmy's compromise with the European guy, a 20% discount for your troubles. Though even assuming all of the shipping delays weren't his fault, he still needs to explain his extended "radio silence"-not cool! (Bear in mind that I teach communication for a living, and have zero tolerance for people who don't at least try to do it in some form: e-mail, call, text, hell, send smoke signals if you have to, but at least make the effort!).
edit: And let us know how it shakes out. I've never had any issues on the Bay, but it's good to know all the ways it can go wrong for future reference.
